Maresfield Conservation Group

The MCG promotes the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment of Maresfield and the surrounding area.

The Group was formed in 1991 by a small group of volunteers from the village concerned over planning proposals, in particular plans for a large waste disposal site at Budletts roundabout. The Group became a registered charity in 2004.

The Group has grown over the years, becoming involved in numerous village projects, such as floodlighting the church tower and the restoration of the Victorian street lights at the recreation ground, School Hill cemetery and on the church wall beside the lych gate (shown on the right).

MCG has a dedicated Footpaths Team who actively maintain the network of rights-of-way across the Parish, maintaining signposts and stiles and keeping the paths open for walkers.

The Group takes a close interest in planning proposals in Maresfield and engages with local individuals and groups and with the Parish and District Councils as appropriate.

Regular 'Village clean-up Days' are organised in the Spring and Autumn. You can enter a Photo Competition (which closes in September 2024). A village calendar will be produced for 2025 using the best entries from the competition.

MCG maintains close links with the Maresfield Historical Society.

Social events are held throughout the year including a Quiz Night and summer garden tea to raise funds for MCG projects and for local charities.
