Historical Society

The purpose of the Maresfield Historical Society is to promote and explore the heritage of the village and surrounding area with regular talks, displays, guided walks, research projects, liaison with the local school and maintenance of an archive of local material.

We meet about nine times a year, usually on a Tuesday in Maresfield Village Hall, and our events are open to both members and non-members of the Society. We are a small and enthusiastic group and have enjoyed talks on a range of topics. Our current programme for 2023/24 is as follows:

23rd April                           ‘Knowle House’            by Gilly Halcrow

24th September                'Tales of The Raj’          by Rukshana Master

22nd  October                   ‘Charles ll in Sussex’    by Helen Poole

26th November                  ‘350 Years of South East Weather’ by Ian Currie

All talks start at 8 pm in Maresfield Village Hall and last approximately 1 hour, followed by tea and biscuits.

Annual membership of the Society costs £15 per family and £10 per individual.

Non-members, who are always very welcome, pay £3 per visit.
