Maresfield Talks!
A new monthly programme of inspiring talks for MCG members
MCG is delighted to launch a new series of visiting-speaker talks for members of the Conservation Group. Each month, we’ll welcome speakers to share stories, expertise and fresh perspectives across a wide range of topics — from local history and wildlife to sport, community life and even a little magic.
Following the closure of the Maresfield Historical Society, we have been keen to continue its valued tradition of bringing history-based talks to the village. Maresfield Talks will build on that spirit while introducing a broader programme designed to inform, entertain and bring members together.
When and where?
Talks will take place on the first Tuesday the month at 7.30pm in the meeting room at The Chequers. There is no charge for members to attend. The first talk will be held on Tuesday 1 September. Click the button below to secure your place.

Annual membership is £10 for an individual or £15 for a household. You can sign up securely through our membership portal, MemberMojo and pay by credit card or standing order.

Kevin Newman presents a trawl through Sussex’s wonderful watering holes and the characters that have run them, or run them into the ground, down the decades.

The subject is 'Ashdown Forest: Past, Present & Future' covering various aspects of the Forest presented by a Forest Ranger.

East Sussex WRAS
Trevor Weeks MBE founded the East Sussex Wildlife Rescue & Ambulance Service in 1996. The Service rescues distressed wildlife across East Sussex and returns casualties to the wild whenever possible, treating them at the WRAS centre at Whitesmith. Trevor’s talks are described as "inspiring, informative, and full of heart."

Humour, education and magic, what’s not to like! A talk on the history of magic, fascinating magicians and a demonstration of different styles of magic.

The Sussex Naturalist
A naturalist, writer and wildlife guide based in Sussex, Michael Blencowe has gained almost twenty years' experience of the amazing diversity of wildlife and habitats found in the county. He is described as one of the best public speakers people have heard — combining education with entertainment, wildlife experiences with folklore, history, music and anecdotes.
