MCG Committee

Jo Lawrance - Chairman
Jo was elected as Chairman of MCG at the 2021 Annual General Meeting of the Group. Jo grew up in East Sussex and first lived in Maresfield during the 90s when her two boys attended a local school. She moved back to the village in February 2020, just in advance of the national lockdown. Obliged to work from home, Jo seized the opportunity to go for long daily walks, rediscovering the beautiful footpaths and rich history of Maresfield. This motivated her into joining the MCG and, subsequently, the Footpaths Group. Jo works full time as a civil servant, specialising in strategic communications and business management. She's passionate about conservation, in particular the environment, culture and our heritage.
Terence Brady - Treasurer
Terence moved to Maresfield with wife, Clare, and two sons, Sam and Joe,
in 2018. He joined the footpaths group in 2019 and the committee, as
treasurer, in 2023.
Richard Wane - Secretary
Richard moved to Maresfield with his family and their dog in late 2021. Having spent all his working life in an office environment he is enjoying the open spaces that Maresfield provides and is keen to help the conserve the village’s heritage. As Secretary to the Society, Richard is assisting with the Society’s governance and administration.
Bruce Milton
Bruce joined the Committee at the 2021 Annual General Meeting of the Group. Bruce and Kim moved to Maresfield three years ago. Following the retirement of John Smith from the Group, Bruce has stepped in to lead the footpaths group. Hobbies include archaeology and brewing beer.
Caro Shaw
Caro moved to Maresfield in September 2021 with her husband and three dogs and loves all aspects of village life. Although still working as CEO of a major charity, Caro is winding down to retirement and is particularly looking forward to indulging her love of photographing flora and fauna in the village and surrounding countryside. Unfortunately, due to a prior back injury Caro is unable to contribute physically to the group but hopes that her organisational and practical skills will be useful.

Tom Merchant
Tom and his wife Suzanne have lived in Maresfield since 1986 although they have worked abroad in Australia and the Middle East for extended periods during this time. Tom has wide-ranging interests including gardening, diy, photography and conservation. He and Suzanne have three grown-up children, two dogs and a parrot. He joined the committee in 2023.
Tracie Coe
Tracie moved to Maresfield in 2021 with her husband Geoff, son Harrison and cockapoo Bailey looking for a less frenetic lifestyle.
Tracie loves living here and the fact there are so many beautiful walks and gorgeous countryside on the doorstep.
Having initially helped with some of the village litter picking days, Tracie was keen to get more involved with conservation of the village & subsequently became an MCG member in 2024.

Graham Shaw
Graham moved to Maresfield in 2021 and recently retired from his business and charity consulting work. He has had a long-standing commitment to community and environmental action as a charity chair, NHS governor and school governor. In joining the MCG as a trustee he aims to contribute to the conservation of the village and its community. Graham is also a Wealden District Councillor and a trustee of Wealden Citizens Advice.

He joined the MCG committee in November 2025. Hobbies include cooking, travel, theatre, DIY and tinkering with cars.
